How did I start my career as a
BARBER IN THE US?
With almost two decades of experience within the industry, Tico has mastered a range of techniques from leading global academies. He has gained experience and knowledge from UK academies such as Menspire Academy and Ego Barbers as well as US academies including the Vidal Sassoon Academy and Paul Mitchell.
Originally from Brazil, Tico moved to the US at a young age and started his career in 2003. After working in salons and barbershops throughout his early life, Tico made the decision to open his very own innovative barbershop that differentiated from others in the industry. He believed that the industry had become too narrow-minded and thus did not offer enough for the modern man.
His barbershop, Invictus Barber Shop, was founded in 2017 in Coconut Creek, Florida. The shop quickly developed a reputation for providing truly outstanding haircuts and gained recognition around Florida. It attracted many famous Soccer and Basketball players, as well as UFC fighters and other celebrities, all lining up to get the perfect cut.
With the business booming, Tico required more skilled barbers to join his team of experts. However, it soon became apparent that a skilled barber was harder to find than he first expected. This resulted in the creation of the Invictus Barber Academy. He began training his own staff in his spare time and quickly developed a passion for educating young and upcoming barbers.
WORKSHOP SCHEDULE
DAY 1 - SHEARS INTRODUCTION
• How to create the ‘perfect’ fade in 10-15 minutes
• Optimizing time
• Body posture: preventing injuries
• Shears ergonomics
• Tools ergonomics
• Using shears and blending lines
• Perfect transitions/connections between sides and top using shears
• Texturizing hair with shears
• Introduction to diagrams
• Hair sectioning
• Blow drying and styling
• Correct product selection
• Client consultation & how to perform excellent customer service
• Social media and photography tips & more.
For day 1, each attendee is required to bring a live model to practice (if you need help finding models, contact us).
DAY 2 - ADVANCED SHEARS
• How to create shapes
• How to adapt a haircut in accordance with the customer’s face
• Understanding diagrams
• Hair sectioning
• Graduation (building weight)
• Layers (removing weight)
• Over direction
• Shears ergonomics
• Injury prevention through body posture
• Blow drying and styling
For day 2, each attendee is required to bring a mannequin head. Get yours at Pivot Point or AmazonÂ
CLASS SCHEDULE
Class starts at 8:00 am
Lunch Break from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm
Class finishes at 5:00 pm
MODELS
Each participant is required to bring one model on day 1 (Shears Introduction). Models should arrive at 12:30 pm and stay until the end of class around 5:oo pm.
Model requirements: 16 years or older, length of hair on top should be 4” or longer, willing to get a skin fade haircut.
CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION
All participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the workshop. This workshop is not providing and will not provide you a barber or cosmetology license. You are not granted any right to work as a barber or cosmetologist after attending this workshop. Barbershops and individuals practicing barbering or cosmetology should follow State Regulations (check your State Requirements).
